With a medieval, dark ages adn classical army up my sleeve the next logical step was in the biblical direction. In line with my lazy gaming I was after something with nto many troops but many troop types. For me the only real compulsory troop was chariots. The shortlist was either New Kingdom, Middle Assyrian, later assyrian or Babylonian. The Superior Knights of the latter two won me over and in the end I settled on Sargonids with a view to morphing towards the babylonian direction some time later. Its a small army in the later period of the list but although low in projection its quite lethal if you can get the matchups right. KnS Chariots |

Sargon the second leads the army from his gold embossed
tiger chariot (Regular Superior Knights) |
|
This guy makes an excellent reserve and often commits later in the game either to clinch a win or where there troops in trouble he turns that frown upside down. His biggest problem is killing troop after troop and ending up with no flanks.
No Emperor worth his salt would ride into battle without a fashionable carpet of the highest quality lining his chariot floor.
Eagles 2006 grand final commemorative Chariot. Here is a sub-general just as hard at the big man himself. Another superior knight chariot who commits earlier with the other chariots. This element was painted in commemoration of the Western Australian Eagles win over Sydney in the 2006 AFL football grand final. |

Rolling with the homies
The other Subgenerals can be Cavalry or knight S. Here is a group not to be taken lightly. A CavS reg Subgeneral with 4 attendant groups.
Although not strictly mounted, the army must have one or two Kallapani - Superior Auxilla mounted in Chariots. These guys are handy for riding with the chariot and dropping off to guard flanks, particularly when attacking past terrain.
Every Kallapani Auxilla must be matched with a corresponding mounted psiloi able to provide support.
Two regular fast Light horse scouts can come in handy and delay mounted as easily as then ever did under version 3. |
|
Bedouin camelry are a cheap form of filler that can come in handy if kept out of frontal combat. Otherwise they are a liability in such a small army. |
|
The Scythians can be under the command of a subgeneral or as an ally. |

Here are two close order elite and line spear (superior and ordinary) all with psiloi support.
Then there are the royal footguard. Ive tried to paint gazelles of some sort on the shields but they somehow just remind me of watership down. If they fight like bigwig I'll be happy.
Loose order elite with psiloi support.
And the same but a little on the ordinary side.
Four tribal levies complete the compulsory troops. (Psiloi O)
The Psiloi O tribal levy freight train can be pretty good when added to the supporting psiloi of one of th eother foot groups.
Here is an almost complete Royal Standard (warwagon inferior). Eventually the priest will have reins, there will actually be a standard in the chariot and the officer guard in the front will have a sword or spear.
And here is the entire army at about 350 points. I
havent quite finished yet and have plans for:
